Set Yourself Aside, and Look to God’s Purpose

Dana Byers, a LifeChurch.tv Partner based in London, UK walks us through the journey of Peter as he learned to set aside who he wanted Jesus to be and looked to understand who he truly was. What if we were able to set aside our own ideas of who we are trying to make Jesus, and instead let him reign in our lives with purpose and power?

This is a really great topic to bring up; it's something I think about often. I think all too often, we spend too much time shaping Jesus into what WE want Him to be, rather than taking the time to really understand who He actually is. A great blog I read daily, OpenApologies.org, touched on this subject last month. We sometimes tend to shape Jesus into somebody He may not necessarily be, maybe to justify some of our actions and thoughts. It's sad to think about, but it happens on a daily basis all over the world. That's something I would like to see change in 2009 – something this global church can maybe help many overcome.

With all the noise of the world going on it's pretty easy to <insert> our own wants and our ideals into what His plan for our life is. I want to commit to spending more time being quiet and listening.

It is a pretty amazing thought to think that we do not know who we truly could be. I find myself trying to "pull the wagon" instead of getting in and enjoying the ride. God's plan for us is so vast that it is impossible for us to truly understand it. I find myself wanting to "plan" my journey with God before I move. It is now time to move in his will and let the plan reveal itself.

  5. Great thought Ben! thanks. Good to see the comments on this one. Love it.
