How to Invite People to Church Online at your Home, Dorm or Flat – Watch Party

by Brandon Donaldson on April 18, 2009

Have you every thought about the ways that Church Online could bring community to your life?  One exciting and simple way is hosting a Watch Party.  A Watch Party is when you invite some people over to your house, apartment, or flat to watch a church online experience with you.  Here are three simple steps to host your own watch party

  1. Invite a few people over 30 minutes before the experience you will be watching – friends, co-workers, neighbors, or family.
  2. Connect your computer to the TV/projector and to the sound system.  Setup a comfortable viewing area.  It might just be moving your computer to the right location.
  3. Prepare some food and drink – Coffee, snacks, or maybe even have dinner together.

Sound easy?  It is.  Then you can be prepared to talk about what you just experienced.  It is a great opportunity to use what God is doing at Church Online to build connections where you live.  Go for it! …and tell us your experience.

Tony, you just made my day. I've been trying to get something like this on paper FO-EVAH and now you've done it.

Thank you, sir.

You bet! This idea helps people see how online tools can help facilitate the church, instead of creating a church that is only online. Hope to see this idea spread!

Holy cow! I tried this last night at our small group. We did the normal small group thing, then as it was wrapping up, I told them about Church Online and asked if they’d like to take a look. We hooked up the laptop to the TV just in time for the countdown to finish ticking down.

As it started, I could tell some of the folks were trying to figure it out. At the beginning, they were asking questions and stuff, but as worship rolled on, Rhett Smith started talking, and then Craig started his message, the whole room begin to hone in on the TV. I could feel the thick presence of the Holy Spirit in that living room.

My wife and I are now thinking of other ways to introduce Church Online to new people and even start Watch Parties at our home outside of Small Group.
