Online Friending

20090516t155213z4I know people who’ve tried online dating successfully. While I met my better half the old-school way, I want to add my name to the list of people you know who’ve tried “online friending” successfully!  (I might have coined a new term there.)

Something I gain from counting church online as my home church is the benefit of forming meaningful relationships around the globe with others who attend. This past weekend ladies who attend the 10am GMT experience with me regularly flew down from Dublin, Ireland to spend the weekend in our home. It was so cool having Annika (a master baker who made cookies and cakes and brought them to us on the plane!) share some of her life’s story with me as we washed dishes in my kitchen. Kate and I got to talk about leadership in business (a topic in which we both have interest), and she surprised us by revealing she’s a very talented photographer! (She took the pic of my son seen in this post.)

When you make the choice to engage in our online community, you’ll begin tacking pins on the map in your mind to represent the lives of people you know and love. God is uniting the global body of believers via the Internet.

Who have you met at church online? How do you stay in contact?

  1. You! (And a handful of other people that I chat with, but have never met.)

:) Scott – do you use Facebook or Twitter to further engage in relationships with people you meet in the church online chat room? Just curious.

I met you as well – Volunteering beside you was a privilege – thank you :)

I’ve met lots of friends – 1) through going to the same experience, and 2) through lifegroup.

I’ve stayed in touch using both facebook and twitter, but mostly through the actual lifegroup meetings and church online experiences.
