Your Powerful Prayer Story

Next week we will continue the amazing study of Elijah, and we will talk about the power of prayer.

I would like to have some of your stories of prayer as part of the message next week. Share in the comments a personal story of when you have seen the power of prayer.

We can encourage each other, and maybe some of these stories will be shared next week at Church Online, when we talk about prayer.

Tell us your best prayer story.

After spending our first week in a hotel in London 18 month ago, we still had not been able to rent a flat to live in and had only 1 night left in our hotel room. All the rooms were booked in the hotel we were staying in as well as neighboring inns. I wrote a blog post earlier in the week asking our loved ones to pray that we'd find a flat in time. As the evening approached on our last night we still had no idea where we'd take our 2 kids and the luggage holding everything we owned in the world.

At 4pm on the last day the phone in our hotel room rang and it was a man we'd met in the village church across the street from our hotel the previous day. He and his wife wanted to know if we'd found a home to rent yet and whether he could help out. Having lived in the area for several decades, he immediately reserved a room for us in a B & B we were not aware was in the area. Then had the 4 of us over to his home for tea and drove us to the inn. We made friends for life and saw God provide just in the nick of time. The prayers of our loved ones gave Chris and me courage amidst the uncertainty.

Years ago our pastor and his family were driving to another city on vacation. The five-year-old insisted they stop and pray for my sister, Laurie. Pastor Tom replied that they had prayed for Laurie that morning and would pray for her again when they got to their destination. But the youngster insisted, so the pastor pulled off the road. That five-year-old boy began to intercede earnestly for Laurie, and the family agreed with him in prayer.

The next day Pastor Tom called to check on Laurie. As my mom compared notes with him, she was able to relate that the fever Laurie had had for two weeks — which the doctor had been unable to diagnose — had finally broken at the very time they pulled off the road to pray.

God hears, and answers, a child's prayers. As adults, we should remember to come before the throne of Grace with childlike faith.

  3. There are plenty of times when God has come through "just in the nick of time," but I've seen so much more of God's faithfulness through ongoing provision for my wife and I. He's provided jobs for me throughout college that didn't conflict with classes and paid enough to cover our expenses. He's stepped into my family situations and healed relationships that had been broken for years. He's allowed me to live in two worlds for a long time, pursuing *both* of my greatest passions (ministry and owning a small web business), and He continues to bring those two worlds closer together.

    He's faithful. Prayer is real.

After this morning experience, (Wellington Campus), I was able to join in a couple's prayer for a gentlemen. I didn't know what or why, just knew to pray in the Spirit. Later, the couple's wife came to me and shared that her husband felt something go thru him. That is the power of the Holy Spirit working in our lives.
In Matt 14, after feeding 5k, and before walking on water, he went to the Mtn. to pray to His Father. He did it on earth, and I need to do it, also. He's wanting to use us as vessels EVERYDAY.
When Craig said he prayed and walked with the Lord all day long, it challenged my walk. I believe in prayer, it works!

I'm writing to ask you all for prayer. We are in need of a new car/mini van. Anything that will hold at least 6 people if not more. We were told that the one we have needs a new motor and other things. Please lift us up this week – the car over heats everytime we use it but it's the olny one we have and we still need to get to work and around town. Also We need to go out of town for doctor's appt.'s this next month. Thank you so much.

  9. Barbara says:

Could you please pray for me, I have been praying earnestly and fervently for quite a while now. When I go to my church I hear messages like "Wait on the Lord" that was last week. I go home and I pray and I wait. You see I am an approved foster carer and I have been waiting for a placement since this Feb. Oh Lord I have not worked since last year June so you know. Honestly I got mad with God week before last then repented. Went on 3 days fasting last week, nothing yet. I beleive he's gonna do it. I just finished a letter to my council requesting a bigger house to foster because the house I am in limits the age group. Please agree with me in prayer that God will give me his favour to receive the bigger house and a placement that my needs will be met in Jesus' name. Thankyou so much . Barbara

      Barbara,

I will pray for you. We just had a very good Bible study on prayer this week in my local church. One of the scriptures we were encouraged to read everyday (at least three times :-) ) is in 1. John 5:14-15: "And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for."

I am confident and believe that your prayer has been heard and answered already. It might just take some time to manifest. I'm gonna pray with you!

      Annika
