Power in Weakness?
This week at Church Online, we are talking about the Holy Spirit & the power we have through Him. Do you have an area of your life that you seem to constantly struggle with? Have you taken it to God & asked the Holy Spirit to make this weakness a strength? Join the conversation in the comments below and let’s talk it over!
Thanks for the great insight and transparency, Amber. It’s great to see you ‘in living color’ =) Some areas of weakness that I turned over to the Holy Spirit a long time ago were deep-rooted feelings of insecurity and inadequacy that I had dealt with my whole life. These feelings really hindered me in my relationships as well as in my career as an educator. Once the Spirit took over and started to work on me from the inside out, I changed so dramatically. Naturally, I have moments of weakness, but for the most part, I feel more empowered and significant in this world than I ever have. Now I use that newfound strength to try to help others who have self-esteem issues and the same feelings I had for so long. I now look at myself as “God’s Workmanship” and when I see myself in those terms, I understand how powerful that new perspective is and will be in the future!
That’s awesome Sherri! And very encouraging! I am seeing my weakness as an opportunity for Christ to become more ‘tangible’ to me. I have already had a difficult conversation this afternoon and felt different during it. I felt a peace that I typically do not feel. Thanks for sharing your story. It is inspiring to me

It is awesome to see that there are people out there that are interested in learning about the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead. Now without getting too technical or even boring to some people, God has sent not only His son Jesus to die on the cross for our sin’s, but also He has sent the Holy Spirit as a helper to enable and empower us to overcome sin today. Praise God that He didn’t just leave us here to fight our battles alone after Jesus ascended into heaven two thousand plus years ago, but rather God is still here with us (in the trenches) in the form of the Holy Spirit today to help us be guided, empowered, strengthened, encouraged, and healed in all parts of our lives. The bible says: But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Romans).
The bible being the bases for all of our understanding tells us that we will receive power as the Holy Spirit comes upon us. What this means is that the Holy Spirit not only lives inside of us (as we receive Christ as our savior), but also the Holy Spirit can come upon us, this is what we call the anointing of the Holy Spirit (God being upon us). All “anointing” means is: to cover, or to cover all over. Many times this term “anointing” has been over spiritualized, but in actuality it is a very basic word meaning to have God be all over us, giving us power. Without over dramatizing this subject or even sounding weird God wants us to be not only filled with the Holy Spirit, but also be anointed (covered all over) with the Holy Spirit which will allow us to have power. This power is needed for us to completely live the lives God wanted us to, and also was how Jesus lived; being filled and anointed with the Holy Spirit. For further reference read in your bible how Jesus Himself was led by the Holy Spirit, and how He Himself also needed the power of the Holy Spirit to complete His journey here on earth. (Hint: Jesus was led by the power of the Holy Spirit into the wilderness).
Blessing to all!
I have to learn to take my “pleasure seeking” (drug & alcohol use) o the Holy Spirit. I struggle and one always seems to lead to the other. I use pain pills and drink , maybe on an every few day basis. I know that it is not acceptable to God. And I read the word daily , im in church 3 times a week , and still haven’t actually asked the holy spirit for relief from these thing that i no longer want to be involved in. This wee I will specifically ask prayerfully.
God gives us free will. When a difficulty in my life has to do with another persons free will… when those choices effective my life and cause challenge and dicomfort, I don’t turn to the HS because I know that he gives us/them free will. In essence I give more credit to our humanity than God’s super natural powers. This week I will not pretend to know HOW HS will work, but seek HS for all things, even when it has to do with others. I will surrender my concerns to the cross and divinely anticipate the miraculous responses of HS. Hmmm
It just hit me that I often don’t take my struggles to the Lord either… I pray for health sometimes.. but I don’t often pray for self-confidence.. healing for old triggers/wounds, etc.. Thanks for your comments.. I think I need to do this..
I find it interesting how we seek for God’s strength or His wisdom or His this or that. God will never, ever give us those things, for in the moment He does, we will think it to be our strength that got us through some situation; we will have a place to hang our hat of “successful Christian living”. God does not give us parts of Himself… He gives us a PERSON, THE person of Christ to live within us and it is CHRIST ALONE who IS strength, IS power, IS honor, IS holy, IS … whatever you want to plug in there… until we know Christ AS our life we will see ourselves separate from Him – He over there with the tools to make some situation work like we want it to – and we over here, unable to get from Him some aspect of Himself that we think will make some situation work like we want it to. That is a frustrating life. However, know Christ AS your life and you find you have ALL of Him ALL the time, right there within you… and He is well able to do whatever He wants to do in any situation. Our part is recognition of Him in me as me.
