Prayer is an incredible way for you to communicate with God. It can seem intimidating, but it does not have to be. God discusses the power and purpose of prayer throughout the Bible. We are instructed to pray continually, not worrying about where or how, but the purity of our heart. It is a way for us to connect with God, know Him deeper, bring Him our requests and concerns, praise and thank Him, ask Him for forgiveness, and grow in our knowledge and maturity.
The disciples of Jesus saw the importance of prayer, and they asked Jesus how they should pray. Jesus said:
Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one. (Matthew 6)
Jesus gave a great model for prayer. Take some time to pray to God.
Thank Him for who He is, ask him to reveal His will for you, bring your
concerns and requests to Him, ask for forgiveness of sin, and ask for His
power to lead you. This is an awesome opportunity to not only talk with
God but to listen for His voice.
